    Hi Chanchal,

Chatter is a Salesforce real-time collaboration application that lets your users work together, talk to each other, and share information. Chatter connects, engages, and motivates users to work efficiently across the organization, regardless of role or location. Chatter lets users collaborate on sales opportunities, service cases, campaigns, and projects with embedded apps and custom actions.

Chatter helps you learn more about your coworkers and gives you an easy way to get in touch with them. In Chatter, everyone has a profile page with a photo and work-related information. Easily discover which teams your coworkers are on, who their managers are, where they’re located, and how to contact them.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

“Salesforce Chatter is the world’s #1 enterprise social network. This powerful collaboration software solution empowers employees to connect, collaborate, share files, data, and expertise, all in real-time. Chatter will help drive productivity and increase efficiency and innovation across departments. From sales, to marketing, to management, your entire company can use Chatter to tear down communication barriers and help your company grow and succeed as a team.”

4 of Our Favorite Salesforce Chatter Features
    Chatter Groups
Chatter Groups can be created for your direct team, your entire business, or a specific project team. Chatter Groups come with various benefits with the most important being collaboration between users with common interests on a particular topic.

If you create a Chatter Group, you’re automatically the Group owner but you can assign a group manager that has similar permissions as you. The only restriction is that Group Managers cannot change the Group Owner or delete the Group.

    Email Digest
After joining a Chatter Group, you’ll start receiving email notifications on activity within Chatter. You might find this a little annoying. No problem! You can control Chatter Group notifications by clicking the link below Group Engagement and selecting the frequency of notifications you’d like to receive.

Additionally, you can specify the frequency of all the notifications you receive (not just a specific Chatter Group) by utilizing the Email Settings options.
    Quick Actions – Global Actions
Depending on your Org setup, you’ll have numerous Chatter Actions available to you on your Chatter tab. Standard Quick Actions you’ll see are: File, Link, Poll, Post, Thanks and Question. The cool thing about all of these Chatter Quick Actions is that they’re totally customizable using Global Publisher Layouts. Global Publisher Layouts are available in Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, Database.com and Developer editions.
    Chatter Thanks
Another cool feature that comes with Chatter is Chatter Thanks. This feature makes it easy for you to drop a quick thank you note to any colleague. All you do is go to your Quick Actions bar, select Thanks, type the name of the person you want to thank and then click Change Badge.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Chatter is an enterprise collaboration platform from Salesforce, a cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) vendor.

Chatter can be used as a company intranet or employee directory. Each employee has a profile page with photo and work-related information that explains what the employee’s role is within the company, who the employee reports to, where the employee is located and how to contact the employee. Employees can “follow” both people and documents to collaborate on sales opportunities, service cases, campaigns, projects and tasks. Like Facebook and LinkedIn, Chatter allows users to manage their feeds and control how notifications are received.

Developers can incorporate Chatter features and capabilities to applications built on the Force.complatform. Salesforce offers Chatter in desktop and mobile versions.

    Hope this helps.

The important thing to note about Chatter is that it is NOT instant messaging - it is way more than that. Instant Messaging is not related to any Salesforce records - the record of conversation is completely disconnected to the opportunity record, contact or account and is not visible to other Salesforce users. With chatter, the conversation is attached to the record for all users to see at any time and they can follow the conversation. That is why it is called "collaboration" and not messaging and is the major benefit of chatter.

Create support cases, update sales opportunities, and approve project funds all from within the community. Connect data and records to internal systems to maximise efficiency and eliminate errors.
Approve expense reports, create support cases, update orders, and more, all from the feed. Customise actions, integrating third-party or your own custom apps with full social and mobile capability.
Post to a group, download a file, or update a service case or sales opportunity using the Salesforce mobile app from any device. Use custom mobile actions to drive progress forward, wherever you are.

Engage your organisation to participate. Contribution scores give employees incentives to join the conversation, while badging and endorsements highlight the key contributors.
