    If users try to login from outside the trusted IP range, they are sent an activation code. Once the code is entered, they can access Salesforce

    If you use org level security and you try to login from outside ip ranges you will get a verfication code after enter the code you can login. But if you use profile level security you can not login from outsidr of ip ranges.
