    Lightning Enterprise ($150/user/month)

Most companies choose between Professional and Enterprise Editions and the choice between these two Salesforce editions is usually the toughest one. You need to opt for Lightning Enterprise if you require the Enterprise exclusive features below.

Security – Lightning Professional gives you limited access when it comes to configuring security. You can only create two custom profiles. Every other user is given the standard profile, which cannot be edited. In the Enterprise version, you have absolute control over what your users can or cannot do in Salesforce.

Salesforce Lightning Integration – If you have multiple systems that need to integrate with Salesforce, you need the Enterprise version. You can integrate limited systems using Lightning Professional through third-party apps. However, if you can’t find the right app, you’ll need the Salesforce API, which is an Enterprise level function.

Automation – The web-to-lead automation feature is available with all Salesforce Editions. However, the Lightning Enterprise Edition (EE) in addition to web-to-lead automation and Process Builder, offers Workflow rules, additional processes in Process Builder and Visual Workflow.

Customization – The level of customization is another huge difference between Professional and Enterprise Edition. With EE, you get mode validation rules, custom apps, custom fields, custom reports, mass mailings analytics and dashboards. Find below a breakdown of the customization options between PE and EE.

    • Validation Rules per object: 20 vs. 100 (PE vs EE respectively)
    • Custom Fields per object: 100 vs. 500

Advanced Reporting – The features of Advanced Reporting include history tracking, bucketing, joined reports and cross filters.

Custom Profiles, Page Layouts, Roles & Permissions – These features let the administrator set different levels of User object and field-level access in the system. The Professional Edition allows up to 2 of each whereas the Enterprise Edition comes with unlimited options.

Record Types – Record Types enable administrators to set up different page layouts, picklists and processes for different users. While Professional Edition (PE) allows up to 3 Record Types per object, Enterprise Edition (EE) offers unlimited options.

Process Builder – It allows the administrator to automate business processes within the Salesforce platform. While PE allows up to 5 processes per org, EE offers unlimited options.

Workflows & Approvals – This allows the administrator to automate items based on certain criteria such as creating tasks automatically, updating a field or sending email notifications. This is available only with the Enterprise and Unlimited Salesforce Editions.

Web Services API – It allows you to connect your Salesforce org with other systems and platforms such as ERP, Accounting or Marketing system. Though many of these options work with the Professional Edition, some do not. If you need a custom Salesforce integration with your backend systems, you will need to leverage the API capabilities within Salesforce, and APIs are only available in Enterprise and Unlimited Salesforce Editions.

  • How to do Salesforce Customization Right?

How to do Salesforce Customization Right?

When it comes to serving potential customers while balancing the sales of the business, Salesforce has unlocked countless opportunities for us to get involved. It has now become an essential tool to run the business smoothly and meet all the requirements quickly and easily. With Salesforce customization, you can automate workflow, add new features, and integrate with third-party systems and whatnot. However, you need to organize the customization process properly to get an optimum Salesforce system. And, it requires more efforts in Salesforce customization than you think.

But no worries! We are mentioning six easy steps that ensure effective Salesforce customization.

    Let’s get started!

What is the Salesforce Customization Process? – Let’s Understand in Six Easy Steps

    1. Get Input From End Users

In this very first step of Salesforce customization, you need to gather around the information from your employees about what your end-users want. Why? They are the ones who serve your customers and have individual experience using Salesforce. All you need to do is collect the problems they are facing, what features they want or not in Salesforce. Doing so can help you identify the potential functionality gaps and make your Salesforce customization process seamless.

    2. Build Customized Team

Coming to the next step, you need to start building a dedicated development team. According to time and resource availability, you need to decide whether you want to build an in-house team or hire a certified Salesforce consulting partner. Suppose your budget is too tight and has limited time for upgrading. In that case, it is better to hire a skilled and experienced consultant, having top-of-the-line expertise in Salesforce customization. Plus, it would be much better if you engage a CRM manager for result-oriented outcomes.

    3. Prioritize Custom Features

Speaking from the first step, you already have the feedback from your employees regarding what features need to be added. But, sometimes, it is impossible to add all the suggestions provided about features that must be implemented due to budget constraints. So, you need to prioritize the custom features accordingly, so it does make an impact on your business and enhance the ROI of your business.

    4. Use Appropriate Sandbox

While undertaking the Salesforce customization, you may have to face unwanted consequences which can affect your system operation. Well, we’ve got a solution for you. To get rid of such consequences, it is advisable to test the Salesforce customization in the sandbox environment. According to your business needs, you decide which type of Sandbox will be a great fit. For your knowledge, let us mention four types of Sandbox.

    • Developer sandbox: This sandbox is used to create new customizations and test them with fresh test data in a clean system. It is created without any historical data.
    • Developer pro sandbox: This sandbox creates customizations and tests them with larger sets of fresh data instead of a developer sandbox. The system is also isolated and clean.
    • Partial copy sandbox: This sandbox is used as a testing environment with sample data to check how new customization can affect the system.
    • Full sandbox: This sandbox is used to carry out performance testing, load testing, and staging. It has a full copy of the system used for final testing before it is going live.

Choose the right option when it comes to using appropriate sandbox!

    5. Avoid Over Customization

It is advisable that you shouldn’t over customize your Salesforce platform. You might be wondering why? Well, let us tell you! Doing so can lead to low adoption and redundant features. And, we are pretty much sure that you really won’t like that too, right? So, it is recommended to plan the Salesforce customization before something like this is bound to happen. You can forecast it from the end-user feedback by setting up the budget, impact on business ROI to avoid such an unfortunate situation of over-customization.

    6. Provide Training

In this step, you must provide proper training to your end-users so that they can use the upgraded Salesforce effectively for their day-to-day tasks. Because, many times, it happens that new customization creates complexity, and end-users can’t leverage the system the way they want. So, it’s better to provide training and, yes, arrange ongoing support for your end-users to ensure optimum adoption.

    Conclusion

Thus, Salesforce customization is one of the best ways to make your Salesforce CRM helpful for your end-users and employees (Using it as a tool for sales and customer service). As soon as you identify that you have new business needs, anticipate and make the changes necessary to match those needs.

For an accurate selection of the Salesforce edition, you need to consider the organizational complexity, along with the customization requirements. The alignment of your business needs, along with the operational capabilities and limitations of each of the editions, should also be evaluated.

Keys to a Successful Selection of the Salesforce Edition

    1- Needs of your Business

You must define the objectives and results you want to achieve to optimize your processes, the key performance indicators, the efficiency of your team, and the relationships with your customers, which will consolidate their loyalty.

    2- Work Team

Take into consideration the skills and size of your work team. It is important to have the right people to meet your goals. If your workgroup is small, the Essentials edition may be sufficient. If, on the other hand, you have a considerable number of workers, you must assess the rest of the editions.

    3- Budget Available

Mainly for small and medium-sized businesses, the cost is often a key consideration. This can limit your options; therefore, you must determine the minimum set of features your business needs to get started. As income is generated, you will then be able to expand the benefits of your services.

Examining the elements exposed above and comparing the characteristics and limitations of each edition will help facilitate your decision. Selecting the edition that best suits your needs will allow you to execute the activities efficiently and, as a result, you will obtain an increase in the profitability of your business.

If you require assistance in selecting, implementing, and updating any of the Salesforce editions, you can visit us. We will put at your disposal consultants from our team to guide you in this challenge and achieve the proposed objectives.

    • Apex Classes;
    • Adding new features in JavaScript;
    • Visualforce emails;
    • Apex triggers;
    • Addition and modification of CSS, in order to revamp page layouts and building visualforce pages;
    • Various third-party integrations.

Few may make a mistake to think of Salesforce customization as Salesforce configuration. This is where they go wrong. These two are different sides of the same coin.

Salesforce configuration refers to delivering the Salesforce solutions using point-and-click tools. To make this happen, no high-end programming skills are required. This may sound a great relief, but Salesforce configuration is not suggested when need-based CRM tools aim.

Why is Salesforce customization the need of the hour?

Now that it’s clear what Salesforce customization means, it’s time to figure out why it is so highly preferred. Customization lets you make most of your hired/purchased Salesforce services.

Imagine having a tool/service/product which is able to cater to all your needs. Not only it is operational bliss, but it also has a huge impact on the final outcome. Such organization-oriented solutions allow businesses to utilize the hired products in full swing and make most of them.

Also, one must not forget that Salesforce is not an easy tool to use. Few of its modules or features can be too daunting to handle by a team of moderate technical competencies. User adoption and retention of this powerful tool can only be succeeded until the gratified factor once the team will utilize it up to the supreme extent.

With Salesforce customization, it’s easier to make Salesforce user-friendly for the teammates. When customized using VisualForce and APEX, the user interface can be everyone’s cup of tea post customization.

    1. Better connectivity with existing systems

In an organization, Salesforce is not the only technology used. There are a couple of more as well. Salesforce customization lets the users integrate the existing systems/apps with Salesforce and build a centralized place to exchange the data and increase the functionality.

The direct impact of this move is on the team’s productivity and outcome. There won’t be any hopping between two systems, errors will be less in extraction the information from different platforms, and time will be effectively utilized.

Once a Salesforce system becomes open for third-party integrations, its efficiency and efficacy double up.

    2. Enjoy enhanced analytics abilities

Sporadic reporting is one of the reasons behind inadequate analytical skills and reduces revenue. One of the key tasks that an ideal CRM system should perform with full perfection is to track the sales team’s efficiency in real-time and render insightful reports.

For instance, the information gathered on how a sales team reaches potential customers and closes a deal lets the business understand which marketing strategy is working out. Based on these insights, one can easily make useful decisions.

However, the default Reporting & Analysis can lose importance in certain ecosystems. Salesforce customization specialists can help you have more viable and useful reporting.

How to ensure success in Salesforce Customization?

Though one might think Salesforce customization is not rocket science, it demands utmost diligence and attentiveness if yielding out the superior quality outcome from the Salesforce customization is the aim.

Here are few things to keep in mind before embarking on the Salesforce customization journey.

    1. Gather the end-users interest data

Ultimately, it’s the team and team members who are going to use the Salesforce tools and apps. This is why it’s essential to listen to the end user’s needs, inputs, and requirements.

Before you make any, gather information on parts like which features they would like to see, the challenges that the team faces with the existing system, and what seems to be losing significance presently. To collect this information, using a survey or feedback form is the best option.

    2. Take the help of sandbox

Making changes to complex systems like Salesforce can bring unpredictable outcomes and complexities at times. To ensure that operations and data are not hampered during the process, consider using a Salesforce sandbox to keep such risks on the lower side. Developer Sandbox, Developer Pro Sandbox, Partial Copy Sandbox, and Full Sandbox options are available. Each one has a different purpose. So, make a choice based on your requirements.

    3. Don’t overdo the things

We know it sounds highly enthralling to have a Salesforce system that works the way you wanted to work. Because of this only, few organizations often fall into the nippers of over-customization and end up having a cumbersome, tedious, and too complex system. Such a Salesforce system will be of use.

Keep realistic expectations, have a clear goal, and have a dedicated CRM manager to keep an eye on the amount of customization done.

    4. Arrange a training session for end-users

The changes done as a part of Salesforce customization can be too daunting. The face of a few features or facilities can be changed completely. End-users will not be able to use the whole new and revamped Salesforce tools like pros soon after implementation. This is why experts say to have training ready for the team to ensure the success of Salesforce customization.

    5. Decide the path to be taken

Salesforce customization can be done in three ways: hire Salesforce developers, allow your team to collaborate with the consultants, and handing over the responsibility to the in-house Salesforce experts.

The last option is not open for all as it takes a lot to have a competent in-house Salesforce expert team. Not every business can afford it, But, Salesforce customization is something that we all need. The same is true with the second option. It’s not feasible in every ecosystem.

Seeing this, the first option is the ideal one as it keeps the businesses tension-free on the fronts like quality, professional service delivery, timely completion, and the like. When A professional service provider handles Salesforce customization, satisfaction is guaranteed.

  • Different Types of Sandboxes in Salesforce

Different Types of Sandboxes in Salesforce

    What is Sandbox?

A copy of the production organization is known as a sandbox. Sandboxes allow you to create multiple copies of an organization in different environments. These copies can be used for different purposes like training, development, and testing.

Sandbox helps in taking care of these tasks without compromising data present on the applications on the production organization.

Sandbox is required for almost every Salesforce installation.

    Sandbox Types

There are different types of sandboxes available. These types are as follows:

    Developer:

The developer sandbox is used for coding or testing in an isolated environment. The sandbox has the production organization’s metadata. You can refresh the data after every twenty-nine days. The limit of the sandbox depends on the productions.

    Developer Pro:

The developer pro sandbox is not much different from a developer sandbox. It is also used for testing and costing in an isolated environment and it includes metadata of production org. The difference between the two is that the storage limit if the pro is larger. It provides more space to test the robustness and a larger amount of data. It can also run higher quality assurance tasks. It can be refreshed once daily.

    Partial Data Copy:

The partial data copy sandbox has the metadata along with a subset of the production data. The term sandbox template is used for defining the subset data and you can use it to test or code the data from your org. The partial data copy can be refreshed every five days.

    Full Sandbox:

A full sandbox is a complete copy of the production organization. It has all the data including object records, attachments, and metadata. The data in the full sandbox is not a live copy. It is used for testing once the coding and development are done in a developer and developer sandbox.

It allows you to see the workflow and process like how it reacts to the data. While creating a full sandbox you have the option of choosing how much chatter activity and field tracking you want. Make sure that you keep in mind how extensively the company makes use of chatter because if it is used too much the feed can be too much.

    • If you require more licenses for sandboxes then you will need to contact Salesforce and put an order.

Different sandboxes offer different storage limits.

    • Partial copy sandboxes have a 5 GB storage limit
    • Developer Pro sandboxes offer a 1 GB storage limit
    • Developer sandboxes come with a 200 MB data storage limit
