Matrix Report: It can be used as the source report for dashboard components. Using this type of report for comparing related totals, especially if you have large amounts of data to summarize and you need to compare values in several different fields, or you want to look at data by date and by-product, person, or geography.

Matrix Report – Matrix reports are very similar to Summary but they allow you to group by rows as well as columns to see different totals. Matrix reports aren’t commonly used unless you have to display lots of complex data.
